This one does the same kind of thing a completely different way. No notebook, no code, just plain English, made possible by EODHD&#8217;s official <strong>MCP server<\/strong>. The question I wanted an honest answer to: can plain conversation do real market analysis, end to end, and does the output actually hold up when you check it later?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-mcp-actually-is\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What MCP actually is<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a standard that lets an AI assistant call external tools mid-conversation instead of only working from what it was trained on. Connect <a href=\"https:\/\/eodhd.com\/pricing-special-10?via=phitzi&amp;utm_source=medium&amp;utm_medium=post&amp;utm_campaign=crash_test_divergence_eodhd_academy&amp;utm_content=phitzi\">EODHD&#8217;s MCP server<\/a> and the assistant gets handed a <strong>catalogue<\/strong>: each entry is one small function with a name (get_technical_indicators), a plain-English description of what it does and when to use it, and a schema listing its parameters. The assistant never sees EODHD&#8217;s REST API or your API key, only that catalogue. So when you ask a question, it reads through the descriptions, picks the one that matches, fills in the parameters itself, and sends the call. The server does the boring part and hands back structured data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s the whole mechanism. No magic, just good documentation being read by something that can act on it. It&#8217;s also why plain English turns into the right API call without you knowing EODHD&#8217;s endpoint names or parameter conventions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One number worth flagging up front: EODHD&#8217;s own product page advertises 72 tools. What actually shows up connected is <strong>86<\/strong>. Not a complaint, you&#8217;re getting more than the marketing copy promises, but if you&#8217;re counting, count the connector, not the copy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-getting-connected\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Getting connected<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From claude.ai, click the <strong>+<\/strong> button in a chat and go to <strong>Add connector<\/strong> (or <strong>Settings \u2192 Connectors<\/strong> if you&#8217;d rather). Everything here is read-only data-fetching, nothing places a trade or touches an account, so &#8220;Always allow&#8221; is a reasonable default. None of those parameters were specified. &#8220;Overbought or oversold&#8221; became RSI, the conventional 14-day period, and a request for just the latest value rather than the whole series. Reading a plain-English question and turning it into a specific, correctly-parameterized call is the mechanism the whole rest of this piece leans on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second discovery is a genuine data-quality trap. Treat every row as &#8220;an insider is buying&#8221; and you&#8217;d be reading a congressman&#8217;s personal portfolio as a signal about the company&#8217;s prospects. Nobody asked for the two categories to be separated; noticing they were mixed and splitting them out was unprompted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The third moment is a failure, and it&#8217;s the more reassuring of the three. Asked which stocks were making new 52-week highs, eleven tool calls and several market-cap and exchange filters in, the honest conclusion was that the screener&#8217;s signal was only surfacing thinly-traded foreign OTC and pink-sheet ADRs, no household names:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"240\" src=\"https:\/\/eodhd.com\/financial-academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-4-1024x240.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6798\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eodhd.com\/financial-academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-4-1024x240.png 1024w, https:\/\/eodhd.com\/financial-academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-4-300x70.png 300w, https:\/\/eodhd.com\/financial-academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-4-768x180.png 768w, https:\/\/eodhd.com\/financial-academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-4-60x14.png 60w, https:\/\/eodhd.com\/financial-academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-4-150x35.png 150w, https:\/\/eodhd.com\/financial-academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-4.png 1083w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That reads as a coverage gap in the signal&#8217;s tagging, not the market genuinely having no new highs. It would have been easy to hand back that list of obscure tickers with a straight face. Instead it kept retrying, decided the results didn&#8217;t pass a smell test, said so, and proposed an alternative. That&#8217;s the behavior worth trusting before you build anything on top of it, and it&#8217;s exactly why the real pipeline below sidesteps this particular signal entirely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-real-test-a-screening-pipeline-in-one-conversation\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The real test: a screening pipeline in one conversation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Five separate questions about one stock is a demo. The actual point is chaining several tools together into a single pipeline, something a plain screener product can&#8217;t do in one pass. EODHD&#8217;s intraday data only comes in 1-minute, 5-minute, or 1-hour bars, and the parameter that looks like it accepts a custom aggregation is a no-op that silently returns the daily number regardless of what you pass it. Five broke down (META, GOOGL\/GOOG, MSFT, AMZN, WMT), three faked out (NVDA, MU, SPCX), and the rest consolidated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>News on the four breakouts<\/strong> turned up four different stories: JPM&#8217;s tied to a clean Q2 earnings beat plus two analyst upgrades, AMD&#8217;s tied to real compute-commitment news, LLY&#8217;s partly a sector-rotation story out of wobbling AI names, and AAPL&#8217;s the thinnest of the four, mostly index-fund flows with no company-specific catalyst behind it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-pick-and-why\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The pick, and why<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Asked which of the four was most likely to actually hold:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"616\" src=\"https:\/\/eodhd.com\/financial-academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-8-1024x616.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6802\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eodhd.com\/financial-academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-8-1024x616.png 1024w, https:\/\/eodhd.com\/financial-academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-8-300x180.png 300w, https:\/\/eodhd.com\/financial-academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-8-768x462.png 768w, https:\/\/eodhd.com\/financial-academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-8-60x36.png 60w, https:\/\/eodhd.com\/financial-academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-8-150x90.png 150w, https:\/\/eodhd.com\/financial-academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image-8.png 1087w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">JPM ranked first. Not &#8220;it broke out the hardest,&#8221; the case was that its catalyst had already happened rather than being priced in on hope, that the move was backed by sector-wide fund flows rather than one stock&#8217;s story, and that the chart was a grind higher rather than a vertical spike, which tends to be stickier. LLY came second, flagged as a rotation trade that could unwind. AMD third, despite having the most genuine excitement behind it, precisely because it had already made the most violent move. AAPL last, the freshest breakout with the least company-specific justification, with an explicit level it needed to hold to change that read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Worth being direct about the division of labor here: EODHD&#8217;s server returned numbers, a market-cap-sorted list, twenty sets of hourly bars, some news articles. Every judgment call, this one broke out and that one faked out, this catalyst is more durable than that one, JPM over the other three, was the model reasoning over those numbers. The server is a data pipe. AAPL broke down hard, gapping on nearly triple its average volume. AMD broke down too, cratering before a partial bounce that stayed under its defended band. LLY did essentially nothing, a soft hold that neither confirmed nor disproved the thesis. One out of four cleanly held, and it was the one that got picked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the reasoning deserves the same scrutiny as the outcome. JPM&#8217;s case rested on three legs. &#8220;Steady grind, not a spike&#8221; was confirmed exactly, no gap days anywhere in the window. &#8220;Sector-wide, not single-stock&#8221; was only half right: the other money-center banks moved together, but Goldman Sachs was actually down over the same stretch, so the breadth argument was real but narrower than originally framed. Of the two breakdowns, AMD broke for exactly the reason flagged as its risk (extended and vulnerable to a giveback), while AAPL broke for a worse and different reason than predicted, a discrete earnings shock rather than the slow rotation-driven bleed that was actually the concern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then the uncomfortable part, because everything above only grades the four names the screen picked, and the screen looked at twenty. The S&amp;P rose 4.7% and the Nasdaq rose 6.9% over the same window, which reframes JPM&#8217;s &#8220;win&#8221;: +1.2%, lagging the tape by a wide margin. Grouped by the bucket the screen assigned them to, the four buckets averaged:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><thead><tr><th>Bucket<\/th><th>Average return<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td>Breakouts<\/td><td><strong>-3.2%<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Breakdowns<\/td><td><strong>+12.1%<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Fakeouts<\/td><td>+6.4%<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Consolidating<\/td><td>+4.8%<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The breakout bucket, the one the pipeline told you to act on, was the worst performing of the four, and the only one that lost money in a window where every other bucket and both major indices went up. The two biggest winners in the entire 20-stock universe, MSFT (+31.0%) and AMZN (+18.3%), were sitting in the &#8220;breakdown&#8221; pile the screen said to avoid, both driven by the same earnings week that took AAPL down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-it-actually-tells-you\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What it actually tells you<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These two findings look contradictory, but they&#8217;re measuring two different steps of the pipeline. <strong>The screening step was wrong.<\/strong> Two weeks of hourly price action told you nothing useful about which mega-caps were about to move, because what actually moved them was an earnings week that hadn&#8217;t happened yet. A chart pattern cannot see a pending catalyst, let alone whether that catalyst will be good news or bad news.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The ranking step was right, within the shortlist it was given.<\/strong> Handed those four candidates, it ranked them JPM, LLY, AMD, AAPL. The actual order that played out: JPM, LLY, AAPL, AMD. Top two exactly right, bottom two flipped. Acting on the actual recommendation, &#8220;JPM is the one I&#8217;d trust&#8221;, meant not losing money, and the reasoning given for preferring JPM is genuinely why JPM was the one that survived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Candidate selection is where this fell over. Judgment applied to an already-narrowed list is where it earned its keep. If you&#8217;re handing a shortlist to something like this, the shortlist itself needs to be built on more information than two weeks of price bars, the earnings calendar being an obvious candidate, and one that&#8217;s available through this same MCP server.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-where-this-fits\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where this fits<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Technical analysis on its own is not a magic wand, and this is a reasonably clean demonstration of why: it sees the shape of the past, not a calendar of what&#8217;s coming. That said, this is one two-week window, four picks, twenty stocks. It&#8217;s not a backtest and it proves nothing statistically on its own. A single sample that contradicts a method is a reason to be curious, not a reason to throw it out, in the same way a single confirming sample wouldn&#8217;t have proven it works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What it does support is something narrower: this is a research assistant, not an oracle, and its output is only as good as the universe and the data you point it at. It&#8217;s a genuine complement to the slower notebook-and-backtest workflow, useful for the first twenty minutes of looking at something rather than the last twenty hours, not a replacement for either. And it isn&#8217;t free to run this way: the catalogue prices its own tools in API credits (<code>get_technical_indicators<\/code> costs 5 per call, the full Form 4 insider endpoint costs 10), and a single conversational pipeline like the one above, 26 tool calls in one sitting, can burn through a meaningful chunk of a smaller plan&#8217;s daily quota.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-getting-started\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Getting started<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Everything above used the same connector: EODHD&#8217;s MCP endpoint with an API key, added once through claude.ai or the Claude Code CLI.
