An <strong>API call<\/strong> is the unit of account we charge that request in \u2014 think of it as a currency. One request may cost 1 call or 100 calls, depending on which endpoint it hits and how much data it returns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"article-content__text wp-block-paragraph\">The two limits count different things, and this is the part worth remembering:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"article-content__list wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>minute limit counts requests<\/strong>. A single request for the whole US exchange counts as one request against it, even though it costs 100 API calls.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>daily limit counts calls<\/strong>. That same request spends 100 of your daily calls.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"article-content__heading article-content__heading--h2 wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-daily-api-call-limit\">Daily API Call Limit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"article-content__text wp-block-paragraph\">Your daily allowance depends on your plan:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"article-content__list wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Free plan \u2014 20 API calls per day.<\/strong> Enough to try the endpoints out, not to run an application.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Paid plans \u2014 from 100,000 API calls per day.<\/strong> Every subscription plan starts at 100,000, and the limit can be raised \u2014 see <a href=\"#h-increasing-your-daily-limit\">Increasing Your Daily Limit<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Marketplace products \u2014 100,000 API calls per product<\/strong>, counted separately. See <a href=\"#h-marketplace-products\">Marketplace Products<\/a> below.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"article-content__text wp-block-paragraph\">The exact allowance attached to your own key is always available from the usage endpoint described in <a href=\"#h-checking-your-consumption\">Checking Your Consumption<\/a>. Full plan comparison is on the <a href=\"https:\/\/eodhd.com\/pricing\">pricing page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"article-content__heading article-content__heading--h3 wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-when-the-daily-limit-resets\">When the daily limit resets<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"article-content__text wp-block-paragraph\">For subscription plans the daily limit resets at <strong>midnight GMT<\/strong>. The counter itself is reset lazily: it is zeroed by your first request after midnight, not by a scheduled job. Until you make that first request, the dashboard and the usage endpoint keep showing the total from your last active day. This is expected behaviour, not a stale reading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"article-content__heading article-content__heading--h3 wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-when-you-run-out\">What happens when you run out<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"article-content__text wp-block-paragraph\">Once the daily limit is spent, we first draw on your <a href=\"#h-extra-api-calls\">extra API calls<\/a> if you have any. When those are gone too, requests are refused with <strong>HTTP 402<\/strong> and this message:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"code-block\">\n<pre class=\"article-content__code-block wp-block-code\"><code>API Rate Limit Exceeded. The charge is also all-or-nothing: if you have 5 calls left and send a Fundamental data request that costs 10, the whole request is refused, but five 1-call requests would still go through.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    \n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"article-content__heading article-content__heading--h2 wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-api-call-cost-by-endpoint\">API Call Cost by Endpoint<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"article-content__text wp-block-paragraph\">The table below lists the cost of a single request to each API. A few details that catch people out:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"article-content__list wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Multiple tickers multiply the cost.<\/strong> A Live API request for 10 symbols costs 10 API calls, not 1. The same rule applies to every endpoint that accepts several symbols in one request.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The filter parameter does not reduce the cost.<\/strong> A Fundamental data request narrowed down to a single field still costs 10 API calls \u2014 you are charged for the query, not the size of the response.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Failed lookups are charged.<\/strong> A request for a ticker that does not exist returns HTTP 404 and still costs its normal price. Validate symbols against the Exchange Symbol List, which costs 1 call for a whole exchange, rather than probing them one by one.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"article-content__heading article-content__heading--h2 wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-minute-request-limit\">Minute Request Limit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"article-content__text wp-block-paragraph\">Separately from the daily budget, the API accepts no more than <strong>1,000 requests per minute<\/strong>. This limit counts requests, not API calls \u2014 an expensive request and a cheap one weigh the same against it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"article-content__text wp-block-paragraph\">Every successful response carries the current state of that budget in its headers, so you never have to guess or hard-code the number:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"code-block\">\n<pre class=\"article-content__code-block wp-block-code\"><code>X-RateLimit-Limit: &lt;the limit applied to your key&gt;\nX-RateLimit-Remaining: &lt;requests left in the current minute&gt;<\/code><\/pre>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"article-content__text wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>X-RateLimit-Limit<\/strong> is the ceiling currently applied to your key and <strong>X-RateLimit-Remaining<\/strong> is how much of it is left in the current minute. Read them from the response rather than assuming a fixed value, and back off when the remaining count approaches zero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"article-content__text wp-block-paragraph\">Exceeding the limit returns <strong>HTTP 429 Too Many Requests<\/strong> with a <strong>Retry-After<\/strong> header telling you how many seconds to wait. Spread requests evenly across the minute rather than firing them all at once, and honour Retry-After instead of retrying immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n    <div class=\"admonition admonition--note\">\n        <span class=\"admonition__icon\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><svg viewBox=\"0 0 20 20\" fill=\"currentColor\" width=\"20\" height=\"20\"><path fill-rule=\"evenodd\" d=\"M18 10a8 8 0 11-16 0 8 8 0 0116 0zm-7-4a1 1 0 11-2 0 1 1 0 012 0zM9 9a1 1 0 000 2v3a1 1 0 001 1h1a1 1 0 100-2v-3a1 1 0 00-1-1H9z\"\/><\/svg><\/span>\n        <div class=\"admonition__body\">\n\n<p class=\"article-content__text wp-block-paragraph\">Requests that fail still count against the minute budget \u2014 a 404 consumes it exactly like a successful request. Requests rejected for an invalid API token do not: they are refused before the rate limiter and carry no rate-limit headers at all.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    \n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"article-content__heading article-content__heading--h2 wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-checking-your-consumption\">Checking Your Consumption<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"article-content__text wp-block-paragraph\">There are two ways to see how much of your daily limit you have spent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"article-content__heading article-content__heading--h3 wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-from-the-api\">From the API<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"article-content__text wp-block-paragraph\">The usage endpoint reports your consumption programmatically, and <strong>it does not cost an API call<\/strong> \u2014 you can poll it safely from your own monitoring:<\/p>\n\n\n    <div class=\"api-key\" data-feed=\"API Usage\">\n Each product has its own quota of 100,000 API calls, and a request to a Marketplace endpoint costs 10 API calls against that product&#8217;s quota \u2014 it does not draw on your subscription&#8217;s daily calls at all.
