Personal use and licensing
What a personal plan covers, and where it stops.
An individual who uses the data solely in a personal capacity for their own investment activities. You must not act as a principal, officer, partner, employee, contractor or agent of a business, and you must not use the data on behalf of any other individual or business.
The Terms and Conditions (opens in a new tab), section "Personal and Commercial Use of Information". There is no separate licence agreement, data licence or written permission for personal plans.
Yes. Software that runs for you alone, including quantitative research, backtesting, screening, rankings, portfolio targets, valuation models, paper trading and automated calculations, is personal use. This applies as long as the data and results are not provided to anyone else.
Yes, as long as it is your own personal capital and your own account. Using the data to manage money for other people, clients, a company or a fund is commercial use.
The following are not allowed:
- Sharing your account or API key with anyone, including family members, friends or groups.
- Selling, reselling, retransmitting, redistributing or displaying the data, or granting others access to it, in its original or repackaged form.
- Using the data as part of a business activity or on behalf of an organisation or another person.
Yes. Private display to yourself on your own devices is personal use. Displaying the data to anyone else, for example on a public website, in an app used by others, or in published charts, is not permitted.
Yes, for your own quality checks, as long as neither dataset is redistributed.
No. A personal subscription is for one person. For team or company use, see Commercial plans.
Not if other people can access the data or a service built on it. Making the project free, non-profit, invite-only or available only to registered users does not make that use personal. Describe the intended audience and what you will display or distribute to sales@eodhistoricaldata.com before making it available.
Can I publish only derived results, such as rankings, signals or backtest statistics, rather than raw prices?
Private calculations and model outputs are covered; publication is a different use case. Do not assume that transforming the data, aggregating it or making the source values difficult to reconstruct automatically permits publication. Contact sales@eodhistoricaldata.com with examples of the outputs and their intended audience so the applicable licensing can be assessed.
Use on behalf of a business is commercial even before launch or revenue. A private experiment solely for your own personal investment research is different from developing a product for a company or future customers. Contact sales if the project is business-related.
No. A personal account does not cover use on behalf of your employer, a client, a fund or another person, even if you are the only person making the API requests and do not redistribute the raw files.
Write to sales@eodhistoricaldata.com with a short description of your use case.
About these answers
This page answers the questions we receive most often before people subscribe to a personal plan: what personal use allows.
The answers on this page apply to all personal plans and reflect our Terms and Conditions (opens in a new tab), which are the only governing document for personal plans. We do not issue separate written permissions, licence letters or signed confirmations for personal use. If your use falls within the personal-use cases permitted here, additional confirmation is generally not needed. For cases that this FAQ directs to sales, or uses outside those described, contact sales@eodhistoricaldata.com.
