2 endpoints to take
S&P and Dow Jones indices seriously

S&P and Dow Jones indices (indexes) are key benchmarks for stock market performance, representing top companies and indicating economic health and investor confidence.

List of Indices with Details API

The endpoint provides essential details for 100+ indices: Global S&P and Dow Jones Indexes, Including S&P 500, 600, 100, 400, and 21 Key Industry indices with such data as Value, Market Cap, Divisor, Daily Return, Adjusted Market Cap and more. See code example below.

Index Components API

The endpoint provides the current list of components for each of the 100+ indices from the "List of Indices with Details" endpoint. For 30 major S&P and DJ indices (see the list below), the endpoint offers 2-12 years of historical records, marking each addition and exclusion of a component with the corresponding date.

We are expecting to add a third endpoint for a historical snapshot of key indices (the state of an indice for a date in the past) later in 2024.

"Index" is the singular form, and both "indexes" and "indices" can be used as the plural form, depending on the context. In relation to S&P data, "indices" is widely used.
In the context of the S&P 500 index, "constituent" and "component" often refer to the individual stocks included in the index. "Constituent" typically emphasizes the companies whose shares are part of the index. For example, "Apple is a constituent of the S&P 500" highlights Apple's inclusion in the index. On the other hand, "component" usually focuses on the stocks or securities themselves, such as "The components of the S&P 500 include tech and financial stocks." While there is a subtle difference, these terms are frequently used interchangeably.
We have a direct contract with S&P Global. We take raw data, process and structure it, making it available as a simple API endpoint.
Historical snapshots of key S&P indices will be added to our API package later this year. Contact our support team if you need more details.

EODHD users with access to Fundamental data (All-in-One & Fundamental Data plans) can obtain current and historical data for all major indices, including lists of active constituents and previously included ones. Unlike in the current package, the constituent data provided is brief, including only the Code, Exchange, Name, Sector, and Industry for all major indices.

Additionally, for the S&P 500, historical data is available as snapshots for over 20 years, showing the list of all 500 constituents for each specific date.
